No matter how much money you have we all share an inexhaustible currency: words. There is no limit to your budget and you can even invent your own notes. Maybe you’re a big spender who likes to splurge on foreign words, or perhaps you live frugally within your means. Either way we all pick up favourites as we go about our business. Here are some of mine.
Kahuna – Tacky enough to have a little class. My first born, or first dog, shall go by this name.
Merkin – What’s that you say? Not only is this a nice sounding word it describes something quite unique. A merkin is a wig of pubic hair for those who are lacking in that area. Look it up if you don’t believe me.
Sliver – It just sounds so thin. Frequently used as ‘Just a sliver more cake’. Also a bad, bad movie.
Lobe – I love the way it rolls off the tongue, if you know what I mean.
Cottage – In the books I read as a child many of the characters lived in these. It’s a cosy sounding place with a log fire and lashings of toast and ginger beer. Also contains a touch of French pronunciation. This word has also been honoured by having an inedible type of cheese named after it.
Sesquipadalian – A true fifty-cent word. Six syllables. A hoot to say but hard to work into a sentence. But the real beauty of this word is its meaning; it’s a really long word used to describe someone who likes to use really long words.
There is no limit to your word budget. Spend big, and applaud the big spenders you meet. You can even steal this currency from others, and the worst that will happen is that someone will steal from you. Take it as a compliment
